$169 Million Federal Investment Targets Emerging Technology Hubs Across the U.S.
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced $169 million in funding for six federally designated technology hubs on July 24, 2026. The investment aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of emerging technologies while strengthening U.S. economic competitiveness, energy security, and domestic manufacturing.
The six hubs span several strategic industries. Missouri’s Critical Minerals and Materials for Advanced Energy Tech Hub will receive $38 million to improve the recovery and refining of minerals used in lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. The Intermountain-West Nuclear Energy Corridor Tech Hub in Idaho will receive $31 million to advance next-generation nuclear reactors and strengthen the regional nuclear supply chain.
Other awards include $30 million for the Bloch Quantum Tech Hub across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin; $34 million for the Kansas City BioSecure Manufacturing Hub to expand biomanufacturing capacity; approximately $16 million for Virginia’s Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Tech Hub; and $20 million for Maine’s Forest Bioproducts Advanced Manufacturing Tech Hub.
Established in 2023, the program brings together businesses, universities, government agencies, and workforce organizations to move emerging technologies from research into commercial production. The latest awards emphasize domestic production capabilities, supply chain resilience, and the expansion of advanced manufacturing capacity.
Together, the six projects cover a broad range of industrial applications, including critical mineral processing, nuclear energy, quantum computing, biomanufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and forest-based materials. Their development reflects the diversity of technologies receiving federal support as the United States advances its emerging technology and manufacturing initiatives.
