12-year compulsory policy has been implemented since 2014 school year. There are 152 universities and colleges in Taiwan. The literacy rate (15 or older) is 99.09% (as of 2021). Mandarin is the primary language used in business and education now. However, the Government is working to develop Taiwan into a bilingual nation by 2030. The objectives of the blueprint are to enhance the national competitiveness and cultivate people’s English proficiency.
