Din Tai Fung announced in October 2025 that it has signed a lease for a 20,000-square-foot space in Downtown Brooklyn. The chain’s new restaurant will be located on the ground floor of The Brook, a 52-story residential tower project managed by the Witkoff Group and Apollo Global Management and situated at the convergence of Fulton Street and DeKalb Avenue. The soup dumpling eatery is expected to open in early 2027.

The Brook venue will be Din Tai Fung’s second location in New York City. The first opened in Times Square in 2024. While the restaurant can seat up to 450 people, reservations must often be made weeks in advance.

Founded in 1972, Din Tai Fung has expanded to more than 170 locations across 14 countries. There are 11 branches in California alone, with several more along the West Coast. The chain also operates restaurants in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Din Tai Fung’s menu is relatively standardized across its many locations. It features a variety of steamed dumplings and buns, along with signature dishes like shrimp and pork potstickers, truffle-infused xiao long bao, sweet and sour pour baby back ribs, and black pepper beef tenderloin. The current New York restaurant also offers unique items, such as the Black Sesame Espresso Martini. The drink is “inspired by the energy of the big apple” and handcrafted with barley shochu, black sesame, walnut liqueur and bitters, Blue Bottle coffee, soy milk, and egg yolk. It is designed to be paired with the Noodles with Sesame Sauce or the Chocolate Mochi Xiao Long Bao for robust flavor combinations.

The Times Square restaurant has also introduced a new late-night bar and bites experience called After Dark, which runs from 10:30 pm to 12:30 am Sunday through Thursday and from midnight to 2 am Friday and Saturday. Reservations are not accepted (all seating is offered on a walk-in basis), although guests must be at least 21 or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to enjoy the curated selection of popular Din Tai Fung dishes and exclusive cocktails. The Curtain Call, for example, is a limited-time drink crafted in collaboration with Overstory, a bar named among The World’s 50 Best Bars for 2025. The cocktail, a jasmine tea paloma with Szechuan pepper sugar a salt rim, is only available until December 21, 2025.

The New York Times once listed Din Tai Fung as one of the top ten gourmet restaurants in the world, and the company is capitalizing on this reputation as it continues to expand across the United States. Taiwanese suppliers can support the home-grown restaurant chain as it meets growing international demand for its famous and traditional xiao long bao, as well as its innovative and evolving menu selections.
